The Sikes Act Improvement Act of 1997, required all military installations with significant natural resources to prepare and implement integrated natural resource management plans (INRMP). No longer would MCBH have numerous independent plans, but one over-arching document that incorporated all natural resources management plans and studies into one plan based on an ecosystem-management approach covering multiple natural resource components and geographic areas which comprise MCBH.
