Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) offers a recreational firing program designed to promote marksmanship proficiency and firearm safety. This program is open to military personnel and their guests, local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel, as well as DoD civilians and contractors working on MCBH.

program basics

  • Event Timing: The recreational fire event is held on the first Friday of every month. Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. The ranges go hot at 1:00 p.m., and the final cease-fire will be called no later than 4:05 p.m.
     
  • Eligibility: This event is open to military personnel and their guests, local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel, and DoD civilians and contractors working on MCBH.
     
  • Firearm Restrictions:
     
  • Range R2: Designated for pistols and shotguns only, with calibers not to exceed .45
     
  • Range R5: Designated for all weapon systems, with calibers not to exceed .50.
     
  • Registration Requirement: All firearms must be registered with the State of Hawaii and the MCBH Provost Marshal's Office (PMO).
     
  • Age Requirements: The minimum age to participate is 12. Individuals between the ages of 12 and 18 who are not active duty service members must be accompanied by an adult.
     
  • Safety Gear: Closed-toe shoes, ear protection, and eye protection are mandatory for all shooters. Observers may only approach the firing line if they wear the required safety gear.
     

 

how to sign up for the recreational fire event

Step 1: Email the following information to corey.kolb@usmc.mil:
•    Full Name
•    Rank/CTR/CIV
•    Weapon Serial Number
•    Weapon Type
•    Caliber
•    Make and Model
•    CLEOC Registration Number
•    Email Address

Step 2: Read and complete the Recreational Activity Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement.

Step 3: Email the completed agreement and the information from Step 1 to corey.kolb@usmc.mil.

Step 4:Arrive behind the range control building (Bldg. 1584) for check-in at 12:30 p.m.
•    Directions: From the MCBH gates, follow the posted signs to the range entrance and designated parking areas.
•    Parking: Ensure you have pre-approval from the SNCOIC and possess a Parking Pass adequately displayed in the front window of your vehicle. Shooters without these items may not park closer to the check-in station.
