Sergeant Major Mayra Moreno graduated from Huntington Beach High School, California in 2001. At the age of 17, she enlisted in the Army. She received orders to 8th Army, Seoul, South Korea. After her tour, she reported to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where she deployed with 101st Airborne Division during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. After two years in the Army, she decided to be discharged and attend College in which she received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Finance.
In May 2005, Mayra Moreno attended Boot Camp at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Recruit Training, she was the Company's Honor Graduate and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Lance Corporal Moreno reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Supply Battalion. She was promoted to the rank of Corporal in April 2006. Corporal Moreno attended Corporals Course in May 2006 at Camp Pendleton, Del Mar.
She deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq with 1st Supply Company, in August 2006. Upon her return in May 2007, she was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. In September 2007, she successfully completed Sergeants Course at Staff Academy in Camp Pendleton. In August 2008, Sergeant Moreno deployed once again with 1st Supply Company to Al Taqaddum, Iraq as the Company's Platoon Sergeant.
Sergeant Moreno reported to Marine Corps Base as a Corporals Course Faculty Advisor in May 2009. In January 2011, Sergeant Moreno received orders to Amphibious Vehicle Test Branch as the Supply Chief. She was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in March 2011.
In July 2012, Staff Sergeant Moreno reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor Duty with class 4-12 and graduated as the Class Honor Graduate. She was assigned to Papa Company, 4th Battalion. During her tour in Parris Island, Staff Sergeant Moreno served as an Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, Battalion Drill Master and Company First Sergeant for a total of eight cycles.
In November 2015, she was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 3 where she held the billets of Battalion Supply Chief and the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company. She was selected to serve at the Hawaii SNCO Academy as the Chief Faculty Advisor for the Sergeants School and the SNCOIC for the Career School.
She was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in May 2019 and received orders to serve as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Detachment 2, Maintenance Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 453. In April 2021, First Sergeant Moreno transitioned to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Manpower and Recruiting Company, Headquarters Battalion Quantico.
Sergeant Major Moreno was promoted to the her current rank May 2023 and currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major at Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Sergeant Major Moreno's personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (in lieu of fourth award), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (in lieu of fifth award), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (in lieu of fifth award), Volunteer Service Medal and Airborne badge.
