Sergeant Major Ramos

Sergeant Major Alfonso Ramos Jr. is a native of Delano, CA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 15 March 1999 out of Sunnyside, WA. Following the completion of Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, he attended Personnel Administration School at Camp Johnson, NC. While at Camp Johnson, he was promoted to Private First Class, and was assigned the MOS 0121, Personnel Clerk.
From October 1999 until October 2000, he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. While there he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
From October 2000 to March 2003, Lance Corporal Ramos served and participated in several deployments with Headquarters and Service Battalion, MEU Service Support Group 13, Combat Service Support Detachment 135, and G-1 Manpower, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, and attended the Military Academic Skills Program. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in December 2001 and to Sergeant in November 2002.
In April 2003, Sergeant Ramos attended Career Planner School at MCRD San Diego. He graduated the course as Honor Graduate and Lateral Moved into MOS 8421, Career Planner.
During June 2003, Sergeant Ramos was transferred to Marine Air Support Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan for duty as a Career Planner. He held several billets including Squadron Color Sergeant.
Sergeant Ramos was selected to attend SNCOA Sgt’s Course Class 03-04 during March 2004, completed the Course as the Honor Graduate, and was chosen by his peers to receive the “Gung-Ho” award.
During May 2004, Sergeant Ramos was transferred to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing for duty as a Career Planner. While assigned to MWCS-18 he attended the Far East Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor School and became a Green Belt Martial Arts instructor. While assigned to MWCS-18, Sergeant Ramos was chosen as the Fiscal Year 2004 Commandant of the Marine Corps Career Retention Specialist of the Year runner up. Subsequently, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant Meritoriously in April 2005.
During June 2005, Staff Sergeant Ramos was transferred to Personnel Support Detachment 18, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing for duty as the Group Career Retention Specialist and Detachment Gunnery Sergeant.
From July 2006 to March 2008, Staff Sergeant Ramos was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines and 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion as a Career Planner.
During March 2008, Staff Sergeant Ramos requested orders to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-01 from January to August 2009. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant September 2009. While assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, Gunnery Sergeant Ramos was chosen as the Fiscal Year 2009 Commandant of the Marine Corps Career Retention Specialist of the Year runner up and attended the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ Combined Awards ceremony in Quantico, VA.
In March 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Ramos reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Regimental Career Planner until December 2012. During this time, Gunnery Sergeant Ramos, participated as the platoon commander for a ceremonial detail in support of the 67th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima to Iwo To, and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12-02.
Gunnery Sergeant Ramos served as the MMEA-82 Combat Arms Monitor’s Career Planner Liaison, Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA), Headquarters Marine Corps, MCB Quantico from January 2013 to July 2014. He was selected to the rank of First Sergeant December 2013.
First Sergeant Ramos reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines aboard MCB Hawaii during August 2014. He served as the Company I and K First Sergeant. During This time, First Sergeant Ramos deployed to Okinawa on a Unit Deployment Program.
First Sergeant Ramos reported to 3d Radio Battalion aboard MCB Hawaii during June 2016 as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.
During July 2017, First Sergeant Ramos reported to Marine Barracks Washington, DC (8th & I), and served as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. He was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major during November 2017. Sergeant Major Ramos served as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 (VMU-3) during his previous duty assignment, and he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major for Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Sergeant Major Ramos’ personal decorations and awards include: the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 Silver Star in lieu of 6th Award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 4 Gold Stars in lieu of 5th Award. He has an Associates of Arts Degree in General Studies from Central Texas College, and is currently enrolled in at University of Maryland University College in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. Sergeant Major Ramos has attended all his resident PME for each rank to include the USMC Senior Enlisted PME Course class 4-14, Air Force Senior NCO Academy class 17-C, and the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy class 214 (purple).
