HQBN Marines Turn up the Heat: Chow Hall Kicks off 2024 Chef of the Year Competition

Since stepping foot into Marine Corps Base Hawaii’s Anderson Hall, Master Gunnery Sergeant Morris Mayfield could tell it hadn’t lost its potential, envisioning an experience that would rejuvenate every Marine who passed through its doors. The aging dining facility had seen better days, but he was determined to restore it to its former glory. As the new food tech on MCBH, Mayfield had taken command of a facility that had lost its spark. Drawing on his 28 years of versatile experience in food service from the kitchens of Japan to the dining halls of Paris, Mayfield is seeking to modernize Anderson Hall, blending his old-school mentality with a fresh, innovative approach.
As the holiday festivities are in full swing, Headquarters Battalion continues its own tradition with its second annual Turkey Bowl. This year, sections within the battalion engaged in fierce competition to snatch the trophy from last year’s winner, the Installation Personnel Administration Center (IPAC).
