26 Jul 2022 |

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – On Wednesday, July 27th, from 0600 to 1000, Marine Corps Base Hawaii personnel will conduct a controlled pre-burn of grass in key areas located near the MCAS Kaneohe Bay flightline in preparation for the 2022 Kaneohe Bay Air Show. U.S. Marines with MCBH Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) will conduct the controlled pre-burn using propane torches to ensure there is no impact to ground water or the local marine ecosystem. MCBH has acquired the appropriate approvals for this action. The pre-burn is necessary to safely conduct all performances of the upcoming Kaneohe Bay Air Show and will clear the designated area of approximately 2 inches of grass.

Personnel from MCBH Environmental Compliance and Protection division and other safety observers will supervise the controlled pre-burn and ARFF firefighters will be present at all times. Residents can expect a small amount of smoke in the vicinity of the MCAS Kaneohe Bay flightline, however this is a planned action and those who do observe smoke should not be concerned.
