MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII -- On Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) launched a joint traffic enforcement operation on the H-3 Highway near MCBH. This initiative responded to rising community concerns about traffic safety and violations in the area, marking the first collaboration between HPD and the MCBH Provost Marshal’s Office (PMO) on a traffic enforcement effort.
“The interoperability between PMO and HPD is essential for the safety and security of civilians, service members, and military families on MCBH,” said Capt. Anthony Cone, PMO Operations Officer. “As we approach the holiday season, reinforcing safe driving habits remains a top priority. We hope this joint effort serves as a reminder of the importance of defensive driving and road safety throughout our community.”
During the operation, HPD and PMO actively promoted road safety through education and conversation, with the goal of increasing compliance with traffic laws. In just over an hour’s work, officers stopped 52 vehicles. Following last week’s success, MCBH and HPD plan to launch additional, joint traffic safety initiatives, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
“Traffic safety on the H-3 is a priority for both HPD and MCBH," said HPD Maj. Shellie Paiva, District 4 (Windward Oahu) commander. “By collaborating with our military partners, we are leveraging our enforcement resources and furthering our shared commitment to creating safer streets. We look forward to working with the PMO to conduct additional operations in the future."
