A memorial service is held for U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Theodore “Ted” R. Richardson at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, located at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu, Hawaii, July 20, 2021. Richardson, 96, died peacefully at his home in Waikiki on July 11, 2021. A World War II veteran, he was one of the last known survivors of the Battle of Guadalcanal. Richardson fought in some of the fiercest battles of World War II and was a member of 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, the most highly decorated battalion in the history of the United States Marine Corps.
