Navy Chief Warrant Officer Vanderla Akaka, the training standards officer with Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific on Naval Auxilary Landing Field Ford Island, is a two-time breast cancer survivor and a recipient of the Pink Power Mom award. The Pink Power Mom is recognized nationwide for being a mother, breast cancer survivor and a woman who helps out her community. Akaka is the first active duty service member to receive the award.
