Kenyatta Wilson and Brandy Leaver were crowned king and queen at the fifth annual GNC Body Search Competition at BayFest, July 1.

“We usually have between 20 to 30 people register to star in the search each year,” said Jon Shiota, fitness manager at the Semper Fit Center.

This year, there were a handful of male-hopefulls competing for the chance to become king, while there were plenty of female contestants to bridge the gap between the two.

Male contenders kick-started the event, strutting their stuff across the stage to try to encourage the judges to vote in their favor.

Then came the female participants, who attempted to catch the eyes of everyone watching the contest and tried to please the judges with curvaceous poses.

In the end, only two of the contestants were able to be crowned king and queen.

Wilson and Leaver were able to conquer all the opposition, and take the crown as king and queen of the body search competition.

“This is a big accomplishment for me,” Wilson said. “I came in third last year, and not winning made me motivated for this year.”

“It’s an awesome feeling,” Leaver said. “It took me four years to finally win, and it now feels great. What kept me going was my daughter. She is what made me want to get back into shape. I love coming to BayFest, and I think it’s great that you all are doing something that promotes healthy beauty.”

Both Wilson and Leaver won $750 in cash, a one-year membership to the 24-hour Fitness Gym and other gifts fit for royalty.
