Ten members, six men and four women, have been chosen to play in the All-Marine Bowling Team tournament March 27 to 30 at various military bowling centers on Oahu.

“The tournament, in the past, has been a lot of fun for me personally, because I have a chance to do something I enjoy and also compete at the same time,” said Ray German, legal clerk, Base Legal, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. “I really enjoy the camaraderie with the other services.”

The four-day tournament will bring together the best bowlers from each military service on island.
Several Marines have participated in past tournaments and said they look forward to playing again this year.

“I bowled in this event last year. (The tournament) was extremely competitive,” said Mark Gleason, U.S. Marine Forces Pacific Band.

We (the Marine Corps team) haven’t been able to keep up with the other teams in the past.”

Each day, participants will bowl six-games, and each will have a different format. The formats will be doubles, singles, and mixed doubles and will end with the team competition.

The tournament will also rotate bowling centers every day so each service member will have a chance to bowl in his or her own service’s bowling center.

Awards will be presented to the high bowler or team of bowlers for each format in the competition.

There will also be an award for overall high-scoring individuals and overall high-team scores for the week.

“I would imagine that the top bowlers will average around 210 for the competition,” said Gleason. “This is extremely impressive, considering each day of bowling is at a different alley with completely different lane conditions.”
