MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii -- Safety is paramount at MCB Hawaii. To better ensure all riders have the necessary motorcycle rider training aboard the installation, the Base Safety Center and the Military Police Department have updated their motorcycle registration procedures.
A Motorcycle Safety Club meeting was scheduled at the base theater Dec. 13, and every person with a motorcycle registered on the base was required to attend.
The meeting highlighted new regulations regarding required safety gear, registration procedures, and annual motorcycle safety refresher training.
All motorcycles registered on the base will now receive Department of Defense stickers and the accompanying decal to expire after one year. To renew the registration, riders must show proof of insurance, registration, appropriate license, safety inspection and refresher course attendance. Motorcycles currently registered that had decals expiring after December 2003 were reregistered at the meeting.
The Base Safety Center will issue refresher course training notices to riders with decals expiring after December 2003.
Ensuring safety remains high priority, military police began conducting checks at the gates around MCB Hawaii to ensure motorcycles comply with the one-year decal registration, and that riders have all of the required documentation to ride on the installation.
