MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII -- Headquarters Battalion (HQBN), Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) hosted their first “Trunk-or-Treat” Halloween event at the battalion, MCBH, Oct. 27, 2017.
The event invited Marines, Sailors, and their families to dress up, decorate their vehicles, and attend the haunted house organized by the family readiness office and battalion senior leadership.
HQBN personnel and their children exchanged candy from the backs of their vehicles and had an opportunity to display their creativity and hard work through their costumes.
“We’re trying to help bring everyone together,” Inabinett said. “Whether they be officers, enlisted, single, or married. It’s a good opportunity to improve overall unit morale.”
Staff Sgt. Alisa Helin, the Digital Media and Engagement staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge, was one of the many who attended the Trunk-or-Treat with her two children, Mason and Arya.
“This event gives children a safe place to trick or treat,” Helin said. “I think it’s really great to see how the battalion has come together as a community and a family.”
Helin was pleased with the turnout to the Trunk-Or-Treat, citing the presence of many different offices, including the uniformed victims’ advocates, the sexual assault response coordinator’s office, the Provost Marshal’s Office, and the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.
“Having the family members here is very important,” said Lt. Col. Marshalee Clarke, the HQBN commanding officer. “We realize that family members are involved in every decision we make, so it’s good to get Marine Corps Community Services involved.”
The Trunk-or-Treat also afforded Clarke and other battalion senior leadership the opportunity to interact with battalion personnel in a positive, relaxed environment.
“Oftentimes, as leaders, we’re only seen by members of the battalion when things aren’t going great,” Clarke said. “Being out here and interacting with Marines, Sailors, and their families with events like these are good opportunities for us.”
