Sergeant Major Lester L. Williams enlisted in the United States Marine Corps 28 December 1992, and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, SC. After Completion of Recruit Training in March 1993 he reported to the School of Infantry for Marine Combat Training, New River, NC. In May 1993 he reported to Motor Transportation Vehicle Operators Course at Camp Johnson, NC.

June 1993 PFC Williams reported to Twenty Nine Palms, CA 3rd Light Armored Infantry Battalion, which later was renamed 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. During this tour he performed the duties of Motor Vehicle Operator and explosive ordnance driver. October 1995 LCpl Williams reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 MCAS, Iwakuni, Japan. During this tour he performed the duties of Motor Vehicle Operator, Squad Leader and Licensing Examiner for Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, JN.

November 1996 Cpl Williams received orders and was transferred to 7th Motor Transportation Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA which was renamed 1st Transportation Support Battalion. During this tour he performed the duties of Squad Leader, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, 1st Service Support Group Unit Movement Control Center Watch Chief, and 1st Service Support Group Road-Master. March 2001 Sgt Williams reported to Marine Corps Combat Service Support School, Camp Johnson, NC as permanent personnel. During this tour he served with the Motor Transport Platoon, performing the duties of Platoon Sergeant/Truck Master, Battalion (Bn) Billeting Chief, Bn Maintenance Management Chief, and Bn MCMAP Instructor.

May 2004 SSgt Williams reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion, Marine Security Guard (MSG) School, Quantico, VA. Upon completion of MSG School, SSgt Williams reported to United States Consulate, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the Detachment Commander. January 2006 GySgt Williams reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion to serve as an Instructor/Advisor for MSG School. As an Instructor/Advisor he served as the Defensive Tactics Instructor, Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor and mentored and advised student Detachment Commanders and Watch-Standers. June 2007 GySgt Williams reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment 1 where he was assigned to Combat Logistic Battalion 5 (CLB-5). He assumed the duties as Company Gunnery Sergeant for Motor Transport Company. He deployed with CLB-5 in support of OIF 8.2. He deployed again as the Company 1stSgt for Transportation Support Company B, CLB-5 in support of OEF 10.1.

February 2011 1stSgt Williams reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, where he was assigned as Company 1stSgt for A Company and B Company from February 2011 to January 2013. January 2013 1stSgt Williams reported to Headquarters Company, Command Element Marine Forces Central Command Forward, Manama, Bahrain where he served as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant.

January 2015 Sergeant Major Williams reported to 5th Bn, 11th Marines and assumed the duties of Battalion Sergeant Major. December 2017 Sergeant Major Williams assumed the duties as Squadron Sergeant Major for VMFA-121, MAG-12, 1st MAW. August 2018 Sergeant Major Williams received PCA orders to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 12 (MALS-12), and assumed the duties of Squadron Sergeant Major for MALS-12, MAG-12, 1st MAW.

May 2020 Sergeant Major Williams received orders to report to Marine Corps Base Hawaii to serve as the Base Sergeant Major, where he is currently assigned.

Sergeant Major Williams completed his Bachelor's Degree in Homeland Security from American Military University in 2013.

Sergeant Major Williams' personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal w/1 gold star, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/2 gold star, and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/1 gold star.
