A tour of MCTAB capabilities
As the superior installation for warfighters, Marine Corps Base Hawaii is not a single base for training. Several sites are operated and maintained by the installation, compromising of several bases and properties throughout Oahu. One such location is Marine Corps Training Area Bellows (MCTAB), located on the Eastern edge of Oahu, in Waimanalo. Bellows includes scenic beaches, lush forest terrain and one of the most technologically advanced training areas in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Last flight of the Shadow during RIMPAC
After years of service to the U.S. Armed Services, the RQ-7B Shadow unmanned aerial system (UAS) was retired after its final flight during the culmination event for Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise at Pyramid Rock Beach on Marine Corps Base Hawaii July 29, 2018. Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle 3 (VMU-3) was the last squadron to utilize the Shadow, while the other VMU squadrons have already transitioned to the RQ-21 Blackjack UAS.

Drowning at MCTAB Update
At 3:45 p.m. on July 24, 2018, Range Safety Inspectors with Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) discovered an apparent drowning victim at Training Area 1, Marine Corps Training Area Bellows (MCTAB), MCBH. Lifesaving measures were attempted on scene and the victim, a civilian with no Department of Defense affiliation, was transferred to Castle Medical Center via emergency medical services. The victim was pronounced deceased at 5:15 p.m., yesterday at Castle Medical Center.

Memorandum of Understanding with DLNR
On June 15, 2018, Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) was made aware of allegations of potential non-compliance with an established Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MCBH and the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). Immediately following, MCBH contacted DLNR to ensure compliance with the MOU, and DLNR confirmed it would comply with the established MOU.

It is a federal crime to point a laser pointer at an aircraft punishable with up to five years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, or both. It is considered a felony offense. This law has been in effect since Feb. 14, 2012. Don’t let a prank lead to prison.
