MCBH Reports Enterococci Exceedance April 13, 2026

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – On April 10, 2026, severe weather and heavy rain caused the Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi (MCBH) Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF) to release effluent with enterococci bacteria levels that exceeded permit limits. Enterococcus is a bacterium used as an indicator of waterborne pathogens. The released effluent mixes with treated effluent from the City and County of Honolulu’s Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant before it discharges approximately two miles offshore at a depth of 110 feet into the natural mixing zone of the ocean. The risk of direct public exposure to MCBH exceedance is extremely low. The Hawaiʻi Department of Health recommends the public to stay out of the water for 48-72 hours after rain fall and beaches have received full sunshine. MCBH PUBLIC NOISE ADVISORY -- MAG-24 to Conduct MV-22B Osprey Operations

Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi – Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 24 will conduct MV 22B Osprey flight operations in the vicinity of Fort Hase Beach on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm in support of routine training requirements.

MCBH Conducts Jump Operations

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAI’I – U.S. Marines with 4th, 3rd and 1st Reconnaissance Battalions will be conducting jump operations on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, starting at 1130. The training will include the use of water vessels and red smoke. One water vessel will be located at the Sampan channel and another at the MCBH Marina to secure the area during training. UPDATE ** This operation has been canceled due to weather. **

U.S. Army Conducts Suppressed Rifle Night Operations at Pu’uloa Range Training Facility

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAI’I – The U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) will be conducting day and night training exercises involving suppressed rifle fire at the Pu’uloa Range Training Facility (PRTF) from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. HST through Mar. 3-5, 2026. This training is crucial for enhancing the U.S. Army’s operational readiness by simulating both daytime and nighttime rifle exercises, increasing rifle proficiency.

Lifeguards are on notice for a dangerous surf approaching from the NNW that may affect MCBH beaches starting tomorrow, 19 Dec through Monday, 23 Dec. Lifeguards will set beach conditions to red flag should the swells exceed safety limits.

MCBH PUBLIC ADVISORY - MOKAPU RD AND HARRIS AVE TRAFFIC LIGHT PATTERN CHANGE (APRIL 22)

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Starting the morning of Monday, April 22, the traffic lights at Mokapu Rd. and Harris Ave. will be transitioning from flashing red to fully operational light patterns. Hawaii Based MV-22 Squadrons Return to Flight Status

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – As early as next week, Hawaii-based MV-22 Osprey squadrons assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, expect to begin executing flight operations as the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has deemed the aircraft safe to fly. The MV-22 squadrons will adhere to the Marine Corps’ three-phased approach, which begins with a focus on regaining proficiency in Core and Basic skills for pilots and aircrew. Squadrons will then follow well-established training and readiness manuals, standard operating procedures, and best practices to demonstrate the skills reinforced in phase one. Upon completion of the first two phases of skill development and demonstration, squadrons will progress toward conducting specific pre-deployment training programs – to include flight operations in the local area – in preparation for their next assigned missions.
