Kahu Kordell Kekoa, a Hawaiian priest with Kahu Kekoas Ministerial Services, chants a pule, a Hawaiian prayer, during a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony for Mackie Hall to U.S. Marine Corps Col. Jeremy Beaven, commanding officer of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and the project team at MCBH, Sept. 30, 2024. The ceremony demonstrated respect and honor for the land and united the project team in anticipation of the demolition of Mackie Hall, one of several military construction plans in line with Barracks 2030, a Marine Corps initiative to improve the quality of life of Marines through the modernization of facilities and the professionalization of barracks management.
