KANEOHE, Hawaii - Haiku Stairs or Stairway to Heaven trail has been closed to the public and illegal to hike since 1987. Although a Honolulu city task force is currently working on a proposal to re-open the trail, the site remains closed and only accessible by maintenance volunteers with the Friends of Haiku Stairs.
