Lt. Cmdr. Mark Kurtz, the officer in charge of Detachment 1, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 37 and native of Alexandria, Va., makes a few remarks during a homecoming and awards ceremony in Hangar 103, Nov. 27, 2013. More than 20 sailors recently returned to Marine Corps Base Hawaii after a seven-month deployment in support of Exercise Triton Centenary. Kurtz said the deployment enabled the sailors to “build maritime interoperability and foster relations” with more than 20 nations including Singapore, Japan and Korea. Detachment 2 is currently preparing to deploy next. During the ceremony, the squadron welcomed the returning detachment, promoted sailors and presented various awards including Sailor of the Quarter, Navy Achievement Medal and flag letters of commendation for safety.
