3rd Radio Battalion Marines conduct rescue on the Waimanalo Mountains March 2, 2018 — Late night on Jan. 7, 2018, a lost hiker was sought out by Hawaii Police Department search-and-rescue teams on the Waimanalo Mountains and was eventually found. However, the helicopter team could not navigate through due to powerlines. The rescue was put on hold until the next morning when ground personnel could reach her during the day. This did not settle well for the victim’s family members and a call to action was echoed. MORE

MCBH constructs modern barracks for future Service members March 2, 2018 — Two barracks were torn down last year in order for a larger housing complex to be built in their place aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Construction on the project began in April 2017 and residents are expected to begin moving into the building in February 2019. MORE

Military Working Dog Handler: Cpl. Hunter Gullick March 26, 2018 — Marine Cpl. Hunter Gullick, a small town dog lover, grew up in Bhyalia, Mississippi. Now, he finds himself farther from home than he’d ever imagined. Gullick is currently assigned as a military law enforcement working dog handler on the small tropical Japanese island of Okinawa. He pulls from his background, as a bird hunter and dog trainer, to change the way that dog handlers throughout Okinawa train their dogs. MORE

In the Alps: Mountain Marines compete in France March 23, 2018 — CHAMROUSSE, France – After competing the week prior in Germany, the Mountain Leaders Section, Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, Calif., traveled to the French Alps to compete in the Mountain Troops Winter Challenge 2018, a competition that tests mountain warfare skills and tactics, hosted by the French Army.
