MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Kaneohe Bay -- MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII - On Wednesday, Oct. 1, between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. approximately 9,500 gallons of untreated wastewater was spilled into the Mokapu Central Drainage Channel (MCDC) at MCBH. The spill entered the MCDC near the intersection of Lawrence Road and Pancoast Place. The spill was contained aboard the base and it did not reach the ocean. The base has notified Hawaii’s Department of Health Clean Water Branch of the situation. The spill was caused by a malfunctioning sewage lift station pump. The sewage lift station pump has been repaired, and affected grounds and surface streets have been cleaned and disinfected. Remediation efforts are ongoing.
