A Message of Strength from CO Col DeTrinis Post TS Lala
18 Aug 2026

To our families, Marines, and Sailors of Marine Corps Base Hawaii,

First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your resiliency, patience, and cooperation over the past few days as we navigated the severe weather and subsequent base-wide challenges. I want to acknowledge the strength and endurance it took to care for little ones, cook and sleep in a home without power. Thanks for supporting one another during this somewhat frustrating time.

The MCBH staff and I remain focused on restoring full services to our installation. To ensure you have the most accurate information, please review the following updates regarding our ongoing efforts.

Base Operations and Recovery Updates

Power Restoration: While power is successfully restored across the majority of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, we are still resolving localized building outages. Our emergency response teams are actively responding to calls and dispatching work crews to fully restore power to all remaining affected areas. If your residence or facility is still experiencing an outage, report them immediately to our dispatch centers. Our emergency response teams are standing by to coordinate and route work crews. Two emergency lines: 808-496-2380 or 808-590-6901.

TLA Authorization: To assist with incidentals caused by the prolonged outage, I am authorizing partial Temporary Lodging Allowance for up to 48 hours. This aligns our installation with other garrison commands across the island. Please look for additional guidance regarding TLA processing through your respective chains of command.

Base Cleanup & Services: Cleanup efforts are underway to address green waste, downed trees, and debris. I want to commend our MCCS and facilities personnel who maintained generator power to critical quality-of-life services during the power outage, ensuring our mini-NEX, gas station, food court, and perishable refrigeration remained operational for you.

Town Hall: We are looking forward to seeing you all at our town hall on 27 August at 1130, MCBH Chapel. Thank you for your continued strength and support.

Respectfully and Semper Fidelis,

Col Steve DeTrinis
Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Base Hawaii
