KC-130J Fuselage Trainer Delivered to MCAS Kaneohe Bay Months Ahead of Schedule, Advancing Force Design Capabilities
13 Aug 2026

In a significant milestone for Force Design implementation and aviation readiness, the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing successfully received a KC-130J fuselage trainer (FuT) at Marine Aviation Training Systems Site Kaneohe Bay.

The arrival of the KC-130J FuT serves as a force multiplier for the Pacific theater. By drastically increasing localized training capacity, the trainer directly enhances training and readiness of Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 153, Marine Aircraft Group 24. Allowing aircrews to conduct vital, high-fidelity training at their home station aligns with the Marine Corps’ broader Force Design modernization efforts and ensures distributed forces are prepared for future contingencies.

"The arrival of this training asset months ahead of schedule is a direct reflection of Marine Corps Base Hawaii’s world-class installation capabilities and strategic positioning," said Col. Stephen DeTrinis, commanding officer of Marine Corps Base Hawaii. "Our airfield, logistics infrastructure, and dedicated base personnel proved once again that MCBH is uniquely equipped to rapidly receive, integrate, and support critical next-generation military capabilities. This success highlights our secure, middle-Pacific platform's readiness to serve as a premier launchpad and training hub for the Future Force.”

Originally slated for delivery in January 2027, the asset arrived months ahead of schedule on August 4, 2026. This accelerated timeline is the direct result of exceptional coordination and the capabilities and capacity of Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Special recognition goes to the following dedicated professionals whose steadfast support and hard work were instrumental to this success: Maj. Judah “Fink” Begab, Mr. Christopher “Chewy” Cerwonka, Mr. Michael Fitzgerald, Mr. Micah Fujita, Mr. Todd Hill, Mr. Clint Holman, Mr. Michael Horn, Mr. Richard Jackson, Mr. Robert Malaca, Officer Kittinart Saneewong, Cmdr.
