Marine Corps Base Hawaii -- A civilian member died following a drowning incident at Pyramid Rock Beach, Hawaii, on the morning of July 29, 2026.
The name of the deceased is being withheld until 24 hours after all next of kin have been notified.
Military police, ocean safety, and federal fire department personnel responded to the scene following a report of a swimmer in distress. A Coast Guard helicopter located the unconscious individual approximately 100 yards offshore and deployed a rescue swimmer. The civilian member was transported to the beach where first responders conducted CPR and life-saving measures.
Emergency medical services transported the individual to Castle Medical Center in critical condition. The civilian member was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the hospital.
The deceased was a vacationing civilian dependent of a visiting service member.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
