A shell of a time aboard MCBH
July 15, 2020
— The environmental team with Marine Corps Base Hawaii is making it their mission to maintain mission readiness while protecting endangered green sea turtles during the months of May through August aboard MCBH and Marine Corps Training Area Bellows. Most adult green sea turtles that feed throughout the main Hawaiian Islands migrate to French Frigate Shoals in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands to nest. However, an increasing number of green sea turtles are now nesting on the beaches of the main Hawaiian Islands. Members of base environmental are monitoring and managing nesting sites across the beach aboard MCTAB...

Building the Future, Respecting the Culture, Preserving the Past
October 28, 2020
— The island of Guam has a rich cultural history, beginning with the early period of habitation by pre-contact Chamoru society to the present-day ethnically-diverse community that has grown into one of the most important economic hubs in the Western Pacific. Since the establishment of Marine Barracks Guam in 1899 and the liberation of the island during WWII, the U.S. Marine Corps is proud to be a part of Guam’s unique story and seeks to honor the island’s past, present and its future. As the Marine Corps continues to make progress with the building of Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, Guam, numerous steps are taken to respectfully manage cultural and historical sites and artifacts encountered, and to care for them in line with modern preservation law and accepted practices...

Over 70 submissions were received from Marines and sailors of all ranks and military occupational specialties. Included in those submissions were inputs from Army and Air Force personnel, spouses and even non-SOFA status personnel. “The submissions surpassed my expectations both in quantity received and in the quality of ideas that were submitted, especially due to the short time window for the challenge,” said Maj. These Marines, all landing support specialists, are referring to a small red patch, sewn to the utility trouser pocket and the distinctive eight-point utility cover. Cpl.
