Sergeant Major Jose L. Romero

Sergeant Major Romero enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1994 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon graduation, he reported to Marine Combat Training, Hotel Company at Camp Pendleton, CA. Upon completion, Sergeant Major Romero reported to Supply School, Camp Johnson, N.C. and received the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 3051, Basic Warehouseman.
In February 1995, Sergeant Major Romero reported to 1st Landing Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Camp Pendleton, CA. In November 1998 he received order to Headquarters Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan to serve as a Warehouse Chief. During this tour Sergeant Major Romero also served as a Supply Inspector at 3d Marine Division.
In November 2001, he received orders to Repairable Issue Point, Supply Company, 1st Supply Battalion, 1st FSSG. In January 2003, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was assigned to the Equipment Reception Platoon and later move to Combat Service Support Group 18.
In April 2004, Sergeant Major Romero requested orders to Drill Instructor School Class 4-04. After graduating in September 2004, Sergeant Major Romero was assigned to Company H, Second Recruit Training Battalion. In 2006, he was then transferred to Headquarters Company, Routing Section, 2D Recruit Training Battalion.
In October 2007, Sergeant Major Romero received orders to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron-38, Marine Air Control Group-38, 3D MAW, Miramar, CA. where he served as the Squadron Warehouse Chief, Supply Chief, Supply Officer, Headquarters Company First Sergeant and left as the Acting Sergeant Major for the Squadron.
In October 2010, Sergeant Major Romero received orders Supply Company, Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, he subsequently deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sergeant Major Romero was then hand selected to deploy again as the SNCOIC of Supply Management Unit Detachment.
In March 2013, Sergeant Major Romero reported to Headquarters Company as the First Sergeant for Supply Battalion. In May 2013, Sergeant Major Romero received orders to Company B, 2d AABn, 2d Mar Div. Camp Lejeune, NC; where he served as Company B, Company First Sergeant. He deployed on a Unit Deployment Program 15-1 to Okinawa Japan.
In December 2015, Sergeant Major Romero reported to 9th Communication Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA; where he served as Contingency Support Company and Headquarters Company First Sergeant until April 2017.
In April 2017, Sergeant Major Romero served at 1stBn 12th Marines Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major. In January 2020, he received orders to Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served as the Air Station Sergeant Major. In May 2021, Sergeant Major Romero receive orders to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where he currently serves as the Headquarters Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Romero’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of three gold stars, Good Conduct Medal in lieu of eight awards, and the Outstanding Military Volunteer Service Medal in lieu of second award.
