Journalists win awards in Air Force contest

Two print journalists and a team of broadcasters from Air Force Reserve Command units won first-place awards in the 2012 Air Force Media Contest.

The command also took two second-place and three third-place awards in the competition. Results of the contest were announced March 14 by the Secretary of the Air Force Office of Public Affairs.

AFRC's first-place winners are:

· Tech. Sgt. Danielle Johnston, 442nd Fighter Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., in the Feature Article category.

· Shawn Jones, 514th Air Mobility Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., in the Sports Article category.

· The 315th Airlift Wing, JB Charleston, S.C., in the Video Documentary category.

Staff Sgt. Brent Skeen, 459th Air Refueling Wing, JB Andrews, Md., placed second in the Television Feature Report and TV Newsbreak categories.

Contestants placing third are:

· Tech. Sgt. Samuel King Jr., 919th Special Operations Wing, Duke Field, Fla., in the Air Force Military Photographer of the Year category.

· Shannon McKay, 934th AW, Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Reserve Station, Minn., in the Graphic Animation category.

· The 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick AFB, Fla., in the Outstanding Initiative in New Media category.

Entries in the contest included Web and social media products, graphic art and still photography; radio, television and video entries; and Air Force band musical productions.

The contest is designed to stimulate and reward excellence and professionalism in Air Force public affairs communicators, and to educate, motivate and inform Airmen, their families and the public.
