Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2019

10 May 2019 | Desiree Chavis The Official United States Marine Corps Public Website

Join Marine Corps Community Services in celebrating Military Appreciation Month throughout May. We are proud to honor our military spouses today, May 10, for Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Did you know that 41 percent of Marines are married? While the Marine Corps has the lowest percentage of married members of all services, Marine spouses more than double the number of Marine Corps officers. Undoubtedly, they play a significant role in the readiness, resilience, and strength of our Corps.

Military spouses support their service members and contribute to their communities in various ways, constantly adjusting to the pressures and challenges of military life. Spouses within the Marine Corps take on various responsibilities, from upholding family readiness standards and balancing a career to volunteering and giving back in their communities, among other things.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan formally recognized a day of appreciation for military spouses to celebrate their contributions to the Armed Forces. We applaud the spouses featured in this video, as they are dedicated to uplifting the values of the Marine Corps through their commitment to community involvement and volunteerism. Each of these spouses have received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their countless hours spent volunteering, whether at events on base, as Command Team Advisers, or with external organizations in their surrounding areas. Watch the video to see how volunteerism has impacted them and their communities.
