   Sergeant Major Gregory L. Hall was born in Magee, MS.  After graduating from Mt. Olive High School he enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1988 and attended boot camp aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.

   In June of 1988 then Private First Class Hall was assigned to Range Control Bearmat, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, CA, where he served as an air controller. Within nine months of reporting for duty Private First Class Hall was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

   In June of 1991 he was promoted to Corporal.  In February of 1992 then Corporal Hall transferred to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., where he served as Sergeant of the Guard for the Security Force Detachment under Naval Aviation Depot.  He was promoted to Sergeant in October of 1992.

   In July of 1995 he was transferred to Marine Air Support Squadron 1, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as air support crew chief.  While assigned to MASS-1 he participated in Northern Edge in Alaska as well as in exercises in Hawaii’s Pohakuloa Training Area. He also served as detachment SNCOIC in Iwakuni, Japan. 

   In May of 1996 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.  In September of 1996 then Staff Sergeant Hall was transferred to Marine Air Support Squadron 3, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the Direct Air Support Center chief.  While assigned there he participated in numerous exercises in Twenty-nine Palms, CA and also in Yuma, AZ. 

   In January of 2000 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and attended Drill Instructor School aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.  After graduating in March of 2000 he was assigned as a drill instructor (DI) with 3rd Recruit Training Battalion’s Lima Company where he served as a DI, Senior Drill Instructor, series Gunnery Sergeant and company First Sergeant until February of 2002.

   In March of 2002 he was transferred to Drill Instructor School as a squad instructor. While assigned there he served as: SOP instructor; physical training instructor; leadership instructor and senior instructor until February of 2004.  He was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in May of 2004 and transferred to 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment for duty as battery First Sergeant of India Battery.  During his tour at 3/10 then First Sergeant Hall deployed with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and again with 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

   In March of 2008 he was promoted to Sergeant Major and received orders to First Marine Corps Recruiting District for duty as Sergeant Major of Recruiting Station Harrisburg.  On 16 February 2011 Sergeant Major was transferred to Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron 164 for duty.

   In April of 2012 SgtMaj Hall was transferred to Weapons and Field Training Battalion where he served until 11 June 2014.

   In July of 2014 SgtMaj Hall was transferred to Marine Corps Base Hawaii for duty as the Base SgtMaj.
  
   His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with a three gold star in lieu of fourth award, Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
